Columbarium (Susan S. Cashmore)

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Standing on the hillside above St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, the view is to the rolling hills of the beautiful valley with our cross in the foreground. Opposite the valley your eyes wander up the rustic hillside to the natural beauty of birds singing in the trees. This is the location of the Susan S. Cashmore Columbarium, which the Cashmore Family generously helped to create here at St. Bartholomew's in 1993.

The Columbarium with its garden is a Christian burial site, open to everyone for the interment of a loved one’s ashes, with clergy available to conduct funeral services if so desired. An ongoing grief support group exists to help survivors cope with the loss of a loved one.

All of life's most important events are celebrated and consecrated on church grounds: worship, baptism, confirmation, marriage, and funerals. As part of the eternal community of saints in heaven and on earth, what better place to have final earthly rest is there than on church grounds amid the tenderly cared for grass, trees, and flowers.

Sincerely,
The Rev. Fred Thayer, Rector
The Rev. Dr. Judith Allison

WHAT IS A COLUMBARIUM?
Originally this Latin word referred to a subterranean sepulcher in whose walls were niches for the cremation urns containing ashes. A modern columbarium is often outdoors and has a wall of recessed niches; each niche holds an urn and is covered with a memorial plaque.

Each niche can hold up to two cremation urns. Covering each niche is beautiful blue-gray marble that will be etched with one or two names and dates of birth and death.

Garden spaces are in-ground 12 x 12 inch plots large enough for the ashes of up to two cremations to be placed therein. Name and dates are then engraved on the overlooking marble Cenotaph wall in the garden.

Space is limited, but your family's place is confirmed upon arrangement of a payment schedule. Completion of the payments is, of course, required prior to placement.

Pre-planning provides you and your family with the peace of mind of knowing that your wishes will be fulfilled. Please call the office at (858) 487-2159 and speak with Kathleen Schott by telephone at x304 (or by email at kschott@stbartschurch.org) to arrange an appointment to make your selection.
