Prayers & Squares (Quilting)
In April 1998, four St. Bartholomew’s ladies joined together, united in their love for quilting and their belief in prayer, to form Chapter #5 of Prayers & Squares International (www.prayerquilt.org). This locally founded interfaith organization (now boasting over 600 Chapters) makes, prepares, and helps parish members tie quilts as an outward and visible sign of the prayers said for that recipient. Our motto is: “It’s not about the quilt, it’s all about the prayers”.
Today, St. Bart’s Prayers and Squares is a strong, ecumenical group of 30 active members with one mission in mind: to cover our parish family and friends in prayer in their time of need. We estimate that since inception, over 2,200 quilts have been distributed worldwide for military troops far from home, surgery patients, people with cancer, unborn babies with complications, and the terminally ill - both children and adults.
Requesting a Quilt
Any member of St. Bartholomew’s Church can request a quilt for themselves or someone they love. Who is eligible for a quilt? Anyone with the need for prayer! The only requirement is that the recipient be consulted and consent to receiving the quilt and the prayers that come with it. It’s that simple! Next, the requestor contacts the quilt request coordinator, whose name and number is located in the weekly bulletin, or contact the Church Office. A time and place will be arranged for the praying and tying of the quilt.
There is Never a Charge for a Quilt
The St. Bart’s Prayer Quilt Ministry is upheld on the donations of a very supportive parish family and the quilters who dedicate themselves, their time and their talent.
Joining the Ministry
Individuals interested in joining the group need not be quilters, for there are numerous ways one can participate. Everyone is welcome! We meet every Tuesday evening at 6:30 in the Quilt Room. We also have a monthly quilt workshop; check the church calendar for the day and time.
