A Warm and Fond Tribute: Jane and Bob Capettini

Jane and Bob moved to San Diego from North Carolina in 1986. That same year they started attending St. Bartholomew’s and became part of our parish family. Imagine being members of St. Bart’s for 39 years! These two wonderful people of God were exceptional in their ministry of service to the community and to St. Bart’s.

Jane, a guidance counselor at Rancho Bernardo High, was cherished by her students and staff alike. She was a longtime member of the Women of St. Bart’s and was also on the scholarship committee and the preschool board. She volunteered in the church office and served on the search committee that called the Reverend Mark McKone-Sweet, our previous rector. Jane was instrumental in the success of the thrift shop and served on the board for many years. You could often see her at the shop, where she was a faithful and dedicated volunteer. More recently, Jane was a guide for Sacred Ground and often led catechism classes for our youth—she loved our youth and all children. And in addition to her dedicated ministry to St. Bart’s, she hosted many meetings and shared her love of cooking with the congregation.

Bob had a long career teaching accounting and was a professor at SDSU. His skills in finance and accounting were a valuable asset to the church. He served St. Bart’s in so many ways: As treasurer and member of the finance committee, he was instrumental in assuring the fiscal stability and future of the church. In addition to his contributions on the finance committee, Bob also served on the vestry, the legacy society committee, and, like Jane, volunteered at the thrift shop and served on the thrift shop board. His pastoral service led him to become a Eucharistic visitor, and he often served as an usher for many services.

Bob’s exceptional teaching and writing skills were instrumental in his leading Bible study classes and facilitating Sunday forums. During COVID, the live Bible study and adult Christian education classes transitioned to Wednesdays on Zoom, covering a wide range of subjects. After Bob and Jane move to North Carolina, into a life-care community where Bob’s sister now lives, he plans to resume the Wednesday classes on Zoom with Deacon Bill at St. Bart’s and Bob’s new parish church.

No doubt Jane and Bob will be sorely missed, and our prayers go with them as they enter a new chapter in their lives.

Deacon Bill Zettinger
