And Then They Rested

On social media this week, I saw a humorous post from one of the other St. Bartholomew’s—the historic 1835 parish in Midtown Manhattan. It had a photo of the church’s many clergy leaning against each other at the altar, with the caption “And then they slept.”
Your clergy can relate to this, too! But we know it’s not just us. After our Lent, Holy Week, and Easter, all our ministries needed a rest. For fear of leaving someone out, I don’t dare try to name them all—but you know who you are!
The maxim I have been repeating lately is “You are only as good as your team.” At St. Bartholomew’s, Poway, this is always on display. Together, we experienced a reflective Lent, a challenging Holy Week, and a jubilant Easter. We welcomed many newcomers while nurturing ourselves, each other, and the community. As the Easter Church, which always lives in paradox, we found it exhausting and energizing at the same time!
I personally thank all of you who do so much to make our church so welcoming, sacred, and life giving. So, please, rest up, and know there is much more goodness to come!
Blessings,
Mother Nina+
