On St. Bart’s Day, at the 10 a.m. service, the children from chapel brought up a very special offering. For three weeks, they have been decorating and stuffing special “St. Bart’s Day” goody bags for our parishioners who are homebound or reside in assisted living. Each decorated bag holds a quilt square, a handmade watercolor bookmark, a small tin of cookies, and a St. Bart’s pen. We pray these bags bring joy—which will stem most of all, I suspect, from knowing they are remembered.
These children (fifth grade and younger) love to read the Gospel and follow their liturgy, but they also love to serve. They strive to be active, contributing members of our congregation. Two of the children even tithe!
What joy for us to have such a vibrant church family of children. Be on the lookout for more of their handprints on our common life. If you have ideas on how they can contribute, do share!
