Grief Recovery

The resumption of ministries at St. Bart’s is representative of our continued revitalization after the pandemic and other changes. This year we welcomed back two outreach ministries: the Winter Rotational Shelter and Feeding San Diego as our “Free Farmers Market.” I’m so glad to also announce the return of a pastoral care ministry: ongoing grief recovery group therapy. The group will provide support for anyone who has experienced loss of any kind, whether it is a loved one, a job, a physical ability, or even a cherished dream.

As before, this group will be led by our longtime parishioner Dr. Robert Fox, a clinical psychologist and family therapist who previously led the group for many years. Bob explains that “the theories of Elizabeth Kubler Ross will provide an element of structure to the group process. The dual process model of grief as described by Stroebe and Schut will also be used to foster a deeper understanding of the oscillation between loss-oriented and growth phases of the recovery process.”

Beginning in June, we will meet in the chapel on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. As this group is a ministry of the church, there is no fee to participate. The first step is to email me to let me know of your interest. Bob will then contact you for a short interview prior to starting.

This is a wonderful opportunity for understanding and healing. I hope to see you there.

Blessings,

Mother Nina+
