When you or someone you love needs prayer or a pastoral visit, the St. Bart’s clergy and Pastoral Care Team want to know!
If your need in not an emergency, please email pastoralcare@stbartschurch.org or call the church office at (858) 487-2159. If it is urgent (e.g., you’re in the hospital), email Mother Nina at rector@stbartschurch.org, any time of day or night. In both cases, it’s very important that you explain what you would like St. Bart’s to do for you (e.g., call you or your loved one, have someone bring communion, order a prayer quilt, or be added to the prayer list).
There are two prayer lists at St. Bart’s: The Prayers of the People, also known as the PoP, and the Prayer Chain. The Prayers of the People list is read at weekend services and is for folks who are in urgent need of prayer (e.g., someone is hospitalized, actively dying, or having surgery). Generally, people are added to the Prayers of the People for about three weeks at a time.
If your name is suddenly not on the Prayers of the People list, please know that doesn’t mean folks are no longer praying for you. The Prayer Chain is for continual prayer—we have a large group of folks who pray daily for the people of St. Bart’s who are in any kind of need (e.g., chronic illness, hospice, no longer members of St. Bart’s), for as long as needed.
About three times per year, you may receive a prayer postcard from us. We regularly go through the directory and pray for our congregational members. If you receive a postcard, that doesn’t mean we heard that you are in need—it is merely a reminder that we care and pray for you.
The clergy, staff, and Pastoral Care Team at St. Bart’s care deeply for all our members. We want you to feel embraced by God’s love and know you are a part of a community that takes seriously Jesus’s commandment to “love thy neighbor as thyself.”
