Memorials & Columbarium

Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE

As Christians, we live in the hope and reality that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ: nothing in life, nothing in death. Still, one of the hardest things we face in this life is the death of a loved one.

Our clergy, staff, Pastoral Care team, and faith community offer their caring support and expertise to individuals and families through those first difficult days. This care begins with the planning of the memorial service to celebrate the life of your loved one, while still leaving space for grief and sorrow. We believe that all people are a gift from our Creator, and all people are received into the arms of our loving God when they die.

At the Time of Death

Prior to or at the time of death, please notify our clergy or call the church office at 858-487-2324. Our Rector, Rev. Nina Bacas, will meet with you to provide counsel and support and to assist you with memorial service arrangements.

"Memorial Services at St. Bart's are truly a celebration of life for the family, parishioners, and community neighbors without a church."

Memorial Services are an Easter Celebration

Like Easter, memorial services are a celebration of life. We've ended some services with joyful singing of "When the Saints Go Marching In," complete with trumpet! The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection.  Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised. (Book of Common Prayer, p. 507)

You can pre-plan your service with favorite hymns, songs, and music as well as readings from scripture, poems, and other sources. This information can be kept on file at St. Bart's to be used at the time of your service planning.

Many deceased members of St. Bart's and our community are interned in the Susan. S. Cashmore Columbarium, located on the hill behind the church. A service of Interment can be planned to immediately follow the memorial service or later time of your choosing.

Memorial Receptions

Receptions can be held in our Multi-purpose Room (MPR), on one side of the sanctuary, or on one of the two patios on campus. The Memorial Reception team provides the ministry of hospitality for the family and friends, hosting a family-catered reception held immediately following the memorial service.
