A People Person

The photo above is a church selfie taken on Sunday, June 16. The girls put stickers on their faces to be “extra sparkly” that day.

Zoe Belle Howard was a “people person.” Sometimes known as “Oakly,” she made friends with parishioners of all ages at St. Bart’s. This means that many of us are now in mourning, but also that there are so many wonderful stories to share. I know we will hear more at her memorial service, but below are just a few to help us remember her lovely spirit. Memories of Zoe leave an imprint at St. Bart’s—a gift to us all.

From parishioners:

  • We recently had gotten to know Zoe on Easter Sunday when she commented on Mom’s hat. She came right up to her after church and said she loved her hat. Since that Sunday, every time she was there, she and I would wink as she walked up/down the aisle, say hello, and talk about our clothes.

  • I loved her personality, and her different colors of hair, and I would comment to her about her latest color. I remember chatting with her as we waited in line at the ReGen potlucks and Lenten soup suppers. She was a sweet girl, and she will be missed.

  • Many of us watched her grow up from toddlerhood.

From parents:

  • Zoe was so sweet and helpful with our young daughters.

  • The love and joy that Zoe brought to us will never be forgotten. We feel privileged to have known her, and please know that her life really impacted our daughter.

  • Our son was quite close with her and enjoyed following her around at church on Sundays.

  • Our daughter enjoyed being silly with Zoe.

From volunteers:

  • Zoe was one of my favorite parts of volunteering to be the extra person for both youth group and youth forum. She always participated and had such insightful things to say.

  • Zoe would pop in and out of the sacristy on Sunday when the Altar Guild was working. The picture used in her announcement was taken at the Zydeco Mass. We had gone through the box of decorations together and that was what she decided to wear! Just a ball of energy.

  • Zoe was such a light at St. Bart’s! She was so excited about lasagna night at Youth CREW, and I told her we chose it because it was her favorite.

If you would like to add a recollection about Zoe, please email me. Her memorial service will be at St. Bart’s on Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. Please see the announcement below in this enews.
