The Daughters of the King is an order for women and girls in The Episcopal Church. Members seek to grow and deepen their relationship with God through a Rule of Prayer and a Rule of Service. The order began 140 years ago, but St. Bart’s chapter was formed 33 years ago, on October 18, 1992. On that day, seven women from St. Bart’s received the charter to become the Ruth and Naomi Chapter of the Daughters of the King. The last surviving founding member, Harriett Moon, passed away in 2024 at the age of 101!
To fulfill the Rule of Prayer, Daughters vow to pray daily. They pray for our clergy and their needs, for those receiving pastoral care, for the spiritual growth of the parish, and the spread of Christ’s Kingdom. Along with daily personal prayer, they also meet twice a month to pray and study in community and to provide support for one other.
To fulfill the Rule of Service, Daughters commit to assisting the church and its clergy. Currently, St. Bart’s has Daughters who are members of the choir, hospitality ministry, altar guild, EfM program, outreach projects, and confidential prayer list.
Through their relationship with Christ, Daughters strive to reach out to others with loving acts while joyously proclaiming the faith. We give thanks for their work at St. Bart’s! If you would like to know more about becoming a Daughter of the King, please contact Chapter President Sandy Morrison. Information will also be available at a table on the patio this Sunday, October 19.
