A Case for Fellowship

Christianity is a congregational faith. With the exception of some interesting Christians who took vows of silence and solitude, we are meant to be together—not just in worship, but in all aspects of our lives. At baptism, we are welcomed into our church family!
But it can take a very long time to get to know your church family just by attending worship services. That’s why I encourage all of you to fast-track your sense of family by joining a small group. This can be a Bible study, or a weekly outreach action, or a fellowship group.
We have many fellowship groups at St. Bart’s. Some are grouped by interests, some by affinity, one is by day of the month, and others are more randomly assembled. They all have so much fun together! Through these experiences, we form relational bonds that are the glue of our church.
Fellowship is so important that I have told the fellowship leaders they are engaging in the most vital work of the church (although I say that with full sincerity to a number of leaders!). Twice a year, groups are formed. Next time you hear us talking about signing up for a fellowship group, please jump in. Not only will you enjoy it immensely, you will be making our body of Christ even stronger, healthier, and better able to respond to the needs of the world.
