Meet Rev. Nina

The Rev. Mother Nina Bacas, Rector

About Rev. Nina

Nina (rhymes with Hi Ya!)  is a third-generation native San Diegan and graduate of UC San Diego. She began her career in aerospace and teaching but ultimately found her call to the priesthood in her husband Andy’s home state of Virginia.
She is a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary with degrees in Christian Formation (2015) and Anglican Studies (2020). She led family ministries at several churches in the Diocese of Virginia and served as a religion teacher and chaplain at two Episcopal schools. Nina participated in missions and pilgrimages to Haiti, Tanzania, Ghana, and Israel.
She loves St. Bart’s because of all the vibrant and diverse expressions of God’s love in the congregation. Nina says, “This church has the spark!”
She and her husband are delighted to be back in San Diego. They have four adult children and now live in Rancho Bernardo with their two cats.
Fun fact: She was a barrel-racer in middle school and still loves horses.

2024 Vision

2024 Parish Annual Meeting Rector's Address

We are “all pulling on the same oar!” A wonderful image of unity. In rowing, a coxswain who commands the team and eight rowing members must be in sync to move at all. When it is magical, a phenomenon called “swing” happens where everyone feels stronger than they actually are individually. The boat even sings and will go really fast...

St. Bart’s is definitely moving with God’s current. I ask your prayers for patience, focus, endurance, unity, and yes maybe even that elusive "swing."
